Digital marketing, simply put, cannot be ignored. An effectively executed marketing and advertising campaign can serve the needs of any business and increase the demand for the product or service that they offer. So what will make your campaigns stand apart from all the existing noise that saturates the digital marketing landscape today?
Is Facebook Peaking?
The good news is that Facebook is still currently the #1 social media platform in the United States, with an impressive 41% of its users being over the age of 65. So for marketing that targets a senior demographic, there simply isn’t a better platform. We’re a huge fan of carousels within the Facebook framework and executed smartly, you can use them to your creative advantage and indeed stand apart from the more basic slideshow approach. Facebook has always had some underused tools in my opinion, some of which I feel should be given a platform to be seen more, so here are a few of which I’ll be championing this year.
360º Panoramic infographic – This is a large graphic image which is then uploaded via Facebook and transformed into a 360º panoramic display that’s controlled by the user moving the device or sliding with the mouse/cursor. Designed effectively, one can create a strong infographic/branded message that will really stand out.
3D photo – This Facebook feature adds a layer of depth to photos in your news feed. In the saturated world of visual marketing noise, it’s this type of effect this will stand you apart and resonate strongly with your audience.
Stop Motion Photography /.GIF animation – Stop-motion animation highlights objects moving in multiple frames. This draws the viewer to pause to view the animation frame by frame. Expect to see rapid adoption of this type of animation because we’ve officially reached a point where still photos just aren’t enough to peak people’s interests anymore.
Facebook Ads have recently embraced this form of image animation, and as a result, is seeing an uptick in usage. The animations are great because they’re long enough to get a complete message across and short enough to keep one’s attention. Even better, as a marketer, creating animated gifs is much easier than you would think.
Flat Lay Designs – You’ve probably seen Flat Lay designs, even if you haven’t heard the term before. Flat Lay design refers to a shot of items lying flat on a table, floor or other flat surfaces. The image is always shot from above.
These types of images are most popular on e-commerce sites. Many that follow design trends think that the flat lay design model is going to continue to increase in popularity over the next year.
Short-form Video – Short-form video is something that needs to be a part of your content strategy in 2019. We’re all familiar with the 30-second television commercial spot. In today’s multi-screen environment though, 30 seconds is just too long. The reality of the situation is after 10 seconds; many viewers are on to the next thing.
Text Animations – Text animation plays a big role in both visual appeal and getting the core message across to your audience. Text animation gives audiences a split second visual focal point to latch onto. It helps narrate a story to the audience.
With a positive shift towards more vivid and brave colour palettes, brands proceed to fight for our attention – thus taking bigger creative risks. Throughout 2018 we saw the domination of bold colours, however, this year will see the reign of very vivid and bright tonality. We’ve seen the super brand Apple and even the radio king, Spotify taking the lead with these vivid colours becoming part of their core creative and brand strategy…plus not only do these colours resonate in print they really look amazing on ultra HD devices.
Video Is a Must
While YouTube may be the most popular way to consume videos, even more popular than Facebook, that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t be putting videos on Facebook or any of the other social media platform for that matter.
Video digital marketing, in some ways, offers the best of both worlds. The actual budgeting and mechanics of video production are well understood and documented, since video itself is a 20th-century medium. However, now video is paired with the incredibly accurate and valuable user metrics of digital media to provide much more useful data on how specific efforts are performing. Whether you’re creating videos for Instagram, Facebook, YouTube or even your own website, it is a top-tier, incredibly effective digital marketing tool. You can capture and convey a lot of information and your brand’s personality with video. As long as you stick to the fundamentals of good video production, you can make impressive gains.
